How does the Canadian Lynx adapt to the cold?
Many animals hibernate or migrate to warmer climates in winter, but Canadian lynx are specially adapted to endure cold weather. In addition to a thick winter coat, the lynx has wide, padded, furry paws that work like snowshoes to help the big cat survive winter\’s difficult conditions. -

Factoid for 2/7: We have TONS of turkey vultures around here – The turkey vulture is related to the stork, not to any birds of prey. Their scientific name in Latin means “cleansing breeze.” Like all other vultures, the turkey vulture has a bald head. This is so that bits of carrion (dead meat) do not adhere to the skin as they would to fea…[Read more]

2/6 Once the glaciers retreated, the Earth\’s crust started to rebound (rise). The result is that the north side of Lake Superior keeps rising by about one foot (30-50cm) per century compared to lands along the southern edge of the Great Lakes. This process is called \”isostatic rebound\” by geoscientists.

Another vet visit. Garfield has another eye ulcer. Vet said we caught it early. Mom has to have another biopsy so she is not happy about that. The rest of us are good. I would not stop bugging Garfield last night so I had to sleep in mom\’s bedroom. It\’s 31 and sunny again. Not much else going on here. Have a nice day.
-
I hope Garfield’s eye ulcer heals up quickly. I know that you want to play but you should really leave your brofur alone when he is not feeling well. Maybe you just wanted to sleep with your mom. Enjoy the warmer weather.
-
Purring and praying that your mom’s biopsy goes well.
-
Jake, Mom and I are sending our prayers and best wishes for things to turn around for all of you. You’ve had way too much challenge, and not much recovery time in between. Hugs to you and your mom!

Mama, for years, had been planning that when the cat-hating Rosco went to the Bridge, she would immediately go to the kitty shelter and get another kitty.
But another…-
I love your vision boards Aetheling. So did your family get another dog? I bet your ruled the house and kept Roscoe in his place.
-
Andy, he is still in his Mom Gracie’s tummy. We are praying for a boy for us, because mama will not take a girl.
-
-
It’s all in the “tude,” for sure! We cats can usually scope things out pretty quickly.
-
-
Love both of them, Aetheling! Has the new pup arrived yet?
-
Great job! I like them both.

WHY DOES MY CAT WAKE ME UP BY PUTTING HIS BUTT IN MY FACE?
It’s a Sign of Affection
Granted, it’s not the same thing as a lick on the face or a rub up against your leg, but when your cat presents h[S butt to you, it means he loves you and wants to be petted. -

2/6 – Why do cats raise their butts?
Felines can also transfer their scent via anal glands, so when they raise their tush, they\’re actually inviting you to verify that they\’re a member of the family and to swap scents. It\’s one of the highest honors a cat can bestow on its doting owner. -
